Interior Designer - High-end Residential | Chicago, IL

In this Interior Designer role, you will have key impacts in…

  • The management and execution of multiple simultaneous design projects and tasks under the leadership/guidance of design firm owner.
  • The supervision and training of design assistant(s) and design intern(s).
  • The responsibility for continuum of design project related tasks, including: computer and manual drafting; presentations when requested; working as resourceful, creative, flexible and resilient team member; client, vendor, contractor timely communication and direct support for design project execution and trouble shooting.

Key Position Responsibilities

Design Support – Pre and During Project

  • Collaborate with firm owner regarding design project, including: scope, vision and approved vision implementation plan, team responsibilities, budget, schedule and design management.
  • Prepare for client meetings and attend when requested; review design drawings with firm owner for approval and adjustment when indicated.
  • Conduct research for design inspiration for project start up; shop fabrics, wall coverings, lighting, furniture, tile & stone, appliances, plumbing fixtures, carpet, rugs, accessories.
  • Create inventories of existing client furniture, art, etc.; oversee initial preparation and ongoing updating of client binders.
  • Create/oversee site measuring and photographing, along with the creation of schematic space plans, furniture plan concepts, interior elevations, client presentation materials and adjustment of design renderings when indicated.
  • Oversee translation of design specs into proposals and approved proposals into purchase orders.

Design Project Management and Support

  • Maintain project budget integrity through oversight and tracking of project financials, including: purchase orders, quote requests, payment requests, client hourly data and billing.
  • Schedule client and contractor meetings, site visits for installations, project status check ins, delivery and pick-up arrangements, coordination of overlap between interior design and site construction requirements.
  • Create and oversee of project schedules, including: daily updates of project tracking grids, punch lists, task prioritization, time management.
  • Prepare for and oversee project installations; manage warehouse inventory; conduct workroom visits; track/manage vendor shipments.

Design Project Communication – Pre, During and Post-Project

  • Manage vendor correspondence, including: proposals, quotes, ongoing follow-up
  • Manage client correspondence and communication, including: proposals, ongoing updates, timely response to questions, project trouble shooting
  • Communicate ongoing project updates to firm owner and managing director, including: project flow, current/future needs, immediate and near deadlines, etc

Supervise Design Assistant(s) and Design Intern(s)

  • Interview potential intern and design assistant candidates; make hiring recommendations to firm owner and managing director
  • Manage and assign relevant design project duties to intern and design assistant
  • Conduct regular project status and requirement reviews with interns and design assistants

Office Wide

  • Oversee library maintenance and updating, Source and engage new vendors, Vet and attend vendor presentations

Qualifications

  • Accredited degree in design discipline (Interior Design or Architecture) and a demonstrated
  • knowledge of technical, design and construction techniques.
  • 5+ years of residential interior design experience
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving initiative skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize multiple simultaneous project elements and work well under deadlines
  • Expertise in design field technical skills, including AutoCAD, Photoshop, rendering, as well as Studio, Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive the company car
