Design Director
Job Description
Design Director – High-End Interior Architecture & Design Studio
Location: Miami, FL
A global interior architecture and design studio known for creating exceptional, one-of-a-kind spaces is seeking a Design Director to lead their Miami studio. This role offers a rare opportunity to join a studio that prides itself on timeless design rooted in history, geography, and architectural vernacular—not fleeting trends. The firm works across residential, hospitality, and commercial sectors, delivering world-class projects from concept through completion.
As Design Director, you will lead multidisciplinary teams across multiple client accounts, set the creative vision for projects, and ensure both design and operational excellence. You will play a pivotal role in upholding the studio's reputation for design integrity, while also contributing to the business's growth and long-term strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Leadership
- Spearhead design direction across all projects, ensuring alignment with client expectations and the studio’s ethos.
- Maintain design integrity from concept through completion.
- Set, analyze, and respond to design trends with an original and forward-looking approach.
- Present and defend design concepts with clarity and conviction.
Client & Business Development
- Represent the studio in high-level meetings, pitches, and stakeholder presentations.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with high-profile clients, consultants, and partners.
- Lead new business meetings and contribute to project fee proposals and programming.
- Manage complex client concerns and provide strategic resolutions.
Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor studio teams, including Associates and Project Leads.
- Foster a collaborative, motivating, and high-performance team environment.
- Take an active role in recruitment, annual reviews, and staff development plans.
- Promote a studio culture of accountability, innovation, and support.
Project Oversight
- Oversee the delivery of 5–10 active projects, ensuring profitability, efficiency, and quality.
- Manage high-level scheduling, budgeting, invoicing, and third-party coordination.
- Identify and address risks, delays, and disputes proactively.
- Collaborate with the Regional Director and Project Leaders to ensure smooth execution.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in high-end interior design and/or architecture.
- Experience working in international design studios or luxury-focused practices.
- Confident, decisive, and highly organized.
- A collaborative leader who leads by example and thrives in a fast-paced creative environment.
- Committed, hands-on, and solution-oriented with a 24/7 mentality.
- Proven experience delivering high-end design projects across architecture, interiors, and FF&E.
- Deep understanding of all project phases and the ability to manage complex, luxury projects end-to-end.
- Impeccable taste and design sensibility, with a portfolio that reflects sophistication and versatility.
- Astute business sense with experience contributing to project fees, studio profitability, and strategic growth.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire, challenge, and guide creative teams.
- Outstanding client management, presentation, and communication skills.
